Fiberon Composite
Decking
Building
an Outdoor Deck?
When
building porch or patio decks, design is important, but so are construction
and building materials.
If
you're investigating decks, or design ideas and plans for a porch or patio,
consider Fiberon decking before building. The Fiberon Decking and Railing
System offers a sturdy, low-maintenance and long-lasting alternative to
wood.
Fiberon
- Alternative Decking Materials Go Mainstream
Plastic
lumber? Not quite. Fiberon is a composite deck building material
made of a mixture of premium recycled wood and polymer resins. It has
the traditional beauty and feel of wood, but without its failings.
Building
an Outdoor Above Ground Swimming Pool Deck?
Fiberon
decking is perfect for your outdoor swimming pool or for homes near the
water. It will not warp, rot, crack, splinter, cup, or split and is actually
more slip resistant when wet! You can't beat Fiberon decking
for above ground pool deck designs.
Fiberon
Deck Railing System
Fiberon
deck rails are manufactured with a wood-resin core and a glossy vinyl
exterior for years of maintenance-free beauty. They are thick, heavy,
and strong and have the look and feel of a wood railing, without the upkeep.
Fiberon deck railings are easy to install and, unlike other rail systems
that conceal a metal frame, Fiberon has no components that will rust,
stain, or shake.
Environmentally
Friendly Composite Decking Material
Fiberon
decking is made without toxic or harmful wood preservatives. It is easy
to install and provides years of worry-free use.
The
Fiberon Deck and Railing System

Specifications
Fiberon Rail System
From a report prepared by Hardwood Plywood &
Veneer Association Laboratory and Testing Service, January 1999:
The fiberonŽ top rail, bottom rail
and posts meet BOCA code requirements for railings and guardrails
Sections 1022, 1604, 1707, 1710 and ASCE 7-95 Section 4.4 for
Guardrail/Guards system. The load required to meet BOCA Section
1710.3 is 2.5 times the 200 pounds wood requirement, or 500
pounds.
The balusters meet the BOCA code requirements for railings and
guardrails, Sections 1022, 1604, 1707, 1710 and ASCE 7-95 Section
4.4 requiring in-fill to withstand a concentrated load of 2.5
times 50 pound wood requirement or 125 pounds applied on an
area not to exceed 1 foot.

Decking
Fiberon's unique design offers many
benefits:
Strength & Durability - With
Fiberon, splitting, warping, and cupping is a thing of the past.
Water & Slip Resistance - Great for beach and lakeside
homes, Fiberon Decking resists the wettest conditions without
warping or rotting. And, its textured wood surface is more slip
resisitant when wet.
Easy Installation - Fiberon
works like wood -with conventional wood working tools. Use small
head ring or spiral shank stainless steel nails or screws for
best results.
Environmentally Safe - Made with premium recycled wood
and without toxic or harmful wood preservatives, Fiberon is friendly
to the environment.
Fiberon solid decking is made from a mixture of premium recycled
wood, predominantly oak from manufacturers of furniture, millwork
or cabinets, and a combination of virgin plastic and recycled
plastic for stronger performance. High-strength materials make
each board lightweight, yet durable and more rigid than other
composite decking. It can be used for any purpose, but is not
designed for use as columns, beams, joists, stringers and other
primary load-bearing members.
Fiberon Decking comes in pewter gray or cedar.
Its surface is embossed with a natural oak grain. Fiberon's color
tones may vary slightly upon installation. In a short time these
color tones lighten to a beautiful, consistent, traditional wood
look and will stay so for years to come. Fiberon decking feels
like wood underfoot, but will not splinter, warp, rot, crack,
cup, giving it a beauty that outlasts wood decks. Its surface
is slip resistant when wet. Although you can stain or paint with
oil-based products, it is not necessary, just as it is not necessary
to seal Fiberon decking.
Fiberon decking is easy to install, using no special tools or
hardware. Whether you are cutting, nailing, drilling or routing,
traditional woodworking tools will do the job.
Fiberon decking is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.
|

Paint/stain:
Fiberon decking requires no paint or stain, although oil-based
paints or stains can be applied in 90 to 180 days if desired.
Generally, wood composites do not absorb or retain paint and stain
as well as natural wood. Test applications of paint or stain in
an inconspicuous spot before applying.
Storage:
Fiberon decking should be stored indoors or covered with UV-inhibiting
material out of doors to maintain consistent color prior to installation.
Decking should be supported every 4 feet when stored.
